In May 1972 the 5-micron radiation from Jupiter was completely mapped at a resolution of 3 arc seconds, revealing at least 50 discrete sources having brightness temperatures exceeding 227 K. These were mainly located within three narrow-latitude bands. Strong correlation exists between the 5-micron brightness temperatures of Jovian features and their colors recorded photographically.
