Analysis of data from the Alouette satellite yields infomation on the electron density around the satellite, perturbation of the plasma by the satellite and its effect on communications, and propagation of extraordinary electr magnetic waves through the plasma. Ionograms also reve a plasma spike near the frequency at which the extraordinary wave begins to propagate. Spikes are also observed multiples of the electron gyro frequency. Electron density and the magnitude and direction of the earth's magnetic field at the satellite can be derived from the plasma and cyclotron information. Some variations of F-spread echoe are noted as is the presence of an ionization cloud detected by movement of the diffuse trace.
