An Aerobee-150A sounding rocket instrumented with 44 BF3 proportional counters was launched from Wallops Island, Virginia, on August 23, 1960, a geomagnetically quiet day; the rocket reached a maximum altitude of about 200 km. The counters were of two different boron isotopic enrichments, which permitted the determination of the counting rate due to neutrons, and an evaluation of the background due to highly ionizing events. These results are compared with previous measurements made with balloon-borne equipment above the equilibrium region and with the flux calculated by Hess, Canfield, and Lingenfelter for this region.
