A second artificial radiation belt from the July 9, 1962, nuclear detonation has been discovered by means of a Geiger counter on the Traac satellite. The source of the second radiation belt is believed to be decay electrons from fission fragments that fell back onto the top of the atmosphere after the detonation. The spatial characteristics of the belt are given and its origin and time history are discussed.
