In this text, the story of Sophie's work in music therapy is presented. The story focuses on how the process of learning musical skills initiates therapeutic work concerning grief and important relationships. The seventeen years old Sophie learned to play the piano and through the songs she chose, she worked with her feelings and difficult experiences. The case study demonstrates how a didactic and a psychotherapeutic area of practice can merge and mutually influence the therapy, providing a good therapeutic situation. It suggests that the learning activity initiates motivation for therapy and functions as a secure base, allowing the client to explore her difficult feelings and dramatic experiences.
