The relationship between solute concentration and the dose to inactivate to 37% of the solute activity in dilute aqueous solutions is shown experimentally to be a straight line for four organic solutes. The linear relationship is confirmed by an analysis, and the slope is shown to be the reciprocal of the ionic yield of the solute. From experiments in which solutes are irradiated with various additives present in solution, the ratio of the reactivity for radicals of the additive to that of the solute cand be determined. These ratios are shown in four cases to be unity within experimental error. (auth)
