Experimental study of the oscillatory instability onset in a Rayleigh-Bénard experiment The fluid is mercury, in the presence of a horizontal magnetic field parallel to the convective roll axis. The oscillatory instability onset is measured as a function of the Chandrasekhar number. The observed power law corresponds to the numerical analysis. We discuss the effect of the aspect ratio.
