A new method of phase analysis which depends on measurements of paramagnetic susceptibility at different temperatures above the Curie point has been evolved. It is capable of indicating equilibrium conditions in two-phase alloys. The application to the iron-silicon system shows that here the γ-loop extends to a maximum of only 2.15% of silicon, and not 2.5% as previously reported.
