Thermal analysis was emp loyed to determine the boundaries of the phase fields in the iron-silicon system between 10 and 40 at% silicon. The phases a, and a, form a peritectic equilibrium with Ihe melt. Fe 2 S i forms a eutectic wilh both a , and FeSi and decomposes eutectoidally into a , and Fe.Si 3 is described in delail.
