We investigated the effect of CO 2 on the NO x reducing removal ability with the streamer discharge by experiment and simulation. As a result of the experiment, we found that the NO x reducing removal ability is markedly decreased with a 10% CO 2 concentration. Two major causes were identified as a result of the simulation. One is the decrease in the production of the ground state N radicals with the increase of CO 2 . The other is that the excited N radicals are produced equivalently to the ground state N radicals by the collisional dissociation of N 2 in the high electric field region of the streamer head, and they react with CO 2 to produce NO. Furthermore, as a minor cause, N 2 (a ' ) molecules change their role from NO removal to neutrality with respect to the presence of CO 2 . Therefore, we concluded that CO 2 is one of the important obstructing factors in the NO x reducing removal of the flue gas using the streamer discharge.
