An Er 1 Ba 2 Cu 3 oxide ribbon with a nonequilibrium crystalline structure was prepared by melt-spinning. Heating of the oxide ribbon in air resulted in the structural change to an orthorhombic phase accompanied by the oxygen absorption of about 21% at about 650 K. The Er 1 Ba 2 Cu 3 O y ribbon annealed at 1173 K for 5 h in air was found to exhibit high T c superconductivity with onset at 92.5 K and zero resistance at 88 K. It is thus concluded that the application of melt-spinning to an Er 1 Ba 2 Cu 3 oxide is useful for the production of oxide ribbon exhibiting high T c superconductivity.
