The paper chromatography of vat and sulphur dyes, using reducing eluents at 80C, has been carried out, the dyes being separated as their leuco compounds. Disperse dyes have been separated, using both hydrophobic and hydrophilic eluents, and these methods have been applied to solvent dyes and to azoie diazo and coupling components. In all cases ascending paper chromatography was used. The relation between dye constitution and chromatographic behaviour has been examined.
