This paper investigates the relationships between charismatic leadership, perceived support of employees, and employees’ goal-directed energy based on affective event theory and social exchange theory. Analyzing responses of 498 employees in Chinese firms using the PLS-SEM approach, the findings reveal that charismatic leadership positively influences perceived support and employees’ goal-directed energy. Perceived support of employees mediates the relationship between charismatic leadership and employees’ goal-directed energy. Also, the results show that the duration under current leadership tenure negatively moderates charismatic leadership and employees’ perceived support. These findings contribute to understanding how charismatic leadership interacts with employees’ behavior and positive emotions and offer recommendations for managers aiming to help employees cope with organizational change and stress issues.
