Results of two balloon flights are presented in which a -ray astronomy spark chamber was carried to residual atmospheric pressures of 1.7 and 2.2 g , respectively. A diffuse flux of celestial rays was discovered at MeV which shows no significant correlation with galactic features and which exceeds a linear interpolation between previously known -ray data at 1 and 100 MeV by a factor of between 4 and 10.
