The Black Album and the short story My Son the Fanatic depict contemporary Britain swamped in a religious explosion of radical Islam. They also illustrate white British hypocrisy and the constant molestation of hybrid immigrants. Due to their skin colour, they regularly suffer humiliation. The hostile behaviour of white Brits affects their maturation, forcing them to act in a different way. The aim of this paper is to analyse these two literary works and their protagonists as the epitome of hybrid identity within the postcolonial Bildungsroman tradition, and to demonstrate that the only viable option for them is the third way.
