Demonstrates a new method for directly measuring absorption cross-sections. The technique involves measuring the saturation energy fluence for short pulse propagation through strongly absorbing media, and is applied to the case of an ArF laser pulse propagating through OCSe. Pulsed saturation effects have also been studied in ArF laser photolysis of Se 2 +CO gas mixtures.
