A study of ultraclarification of aqueous solvents and solutions has been made by the ultracentrifugal technique of Dandliker and Kraut. Convenient optical arrangements for reducing stray scattering have been developed. Light‐scattering striations were found when solutions of cellulose trinitrate and lignin sulfonate were ultraclarified. With cellulose trinitrate, striations were accompanied by a downward bending of the θ = 0 line of the Zimm plot. The cause, elimination, and implications of these effects are discussed
