Structure observed during detailed measurements of detachment from H⁻by electron impact

Absolute cross sections for single detachment from H - by electron impact have been measured by an inclined beam technique. At interaction energies close to 14.5 eV the detachment function shows structure which is attributed to the formation of H 2- with a lifetime of the order of 10 -15 s.
