Dynamics of the relaxation of free excitons in pure and well-annealed specimens of AgBr have been investigated by observing time-resolved luminescence spectra at the temperature region between 500 mK and 18 K. Experimental results at high temperature region reveal the energy relaxation mechanism which can be explained in terms of the combination of exciton-LA phonon interaction and exciton-exciton collision. With decreasing temperature, the deviation from these situations becomes remarkably evident. This fact, together with a fine structure in the spectra, suggests that polaron effects are substantial in the system of free excitons.
