This paper describes point‐to‐point and radar return attenuation measurements through the atmosphere at a frequency of 15.3 GHz. Clear air fluctuations along a 20‐km path were <1.5 db except in unusual situations, such as during a frontal passage or for a strong ground moisture layer occurring just before sunrise. Observations of a general rain showed an attenuation rain rate ratio of 0.1 db/km/mm/hr. Radar observations of a more intense shower showed a relatively small attenuation because of the limited extent of the rain cell.
