Primary cutaneous mucormycosis is rare and often fatal. We report two children with acute lymphocytic leukemia who developed cutaneous mucormycotic infections that were diagnosed early and successfully treated with amphotericin B and debridement. The clinical and pathologic features in these patients were entirely different and were judged to represent superficial and gangrenous forms of the primary disease. Previously described cases are consistent with two clinical expressions of cutaneous mucormycosis and permit a delineation of the characterization, morphology and clinical course of each type.
