Electroreflectance of ZnO is studied in the infrared spectral region (300 to 1000 cm −1 ) with light polarized ‖ c and ⊥ c An electric field E 3 ‖ c modifies the reflectivity near both edges of the reststrahlen band. Thus the infrared eigenfrequencies can be determined by this method. From the field‐induced shift of the eigenfrequencies “electric Grüneisen constants” are calculated. They represent a measure for the dependence of the phonon frequencies upon a change of polarization.
