Oceanographic survey reports marine sampling and autonomous deployments in the South West Indian Ocean, highlighting integrated ocean monitoring and scientific capacity building.
The SEAmester and Coast to Current (C2C) scientific cruise was conducted aboard the SA Agulhas II (Voyage 067) from 17–27 June 2025. The cruise departed from Cape Town and surveyed the C2C transect (~33°S) off Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape, South West Indian Ocean, as well as the Mossel Bay Monitoring Line (MBML) off Mossel Bay. Sampling activities included underway measurements of chemistry, nutrients, chlorophyll-a, and phytoplankton, together with detailed CTD casts and zooplankton net deployments along both transects. An uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) and Argo floats were also deployed during the voyage. In addition, CTD casts to depths of up to 500 m were conducted twice daily (10:00 and 15:00) as part of the practical training programme for SEAmester students. Upon completion of the MBML survey, the SA Agulhas II transited back to Cape Town while continuing underway sampling operations.
