In this article, a compact microstrip-fed slot antenna with circular polarization characteristic for 5–6 GHz wireless local area network (WLAN) systems is presented. The proposed antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.4. The antenna configuration consists of open-stub microstrip-line in top layer and a circularly slotted ground plane with a pair of spur-shaped slits. The measured impedance bandwidth for l0 dB return loss is from 4.75 to 6.25 GHz with an axial ratio bandwidth of 5.15–5.85 GHz, covering 5.2/5.8GHz WLAN operating bands. Good return loss and radiation pattern characteristics are obtained in the frequency band of interest.
