The infrared spectra of liquid and crystalline CHBr2CHBr2 and CHCl2CHCl2 have been obtained in the 2 to 36μ region. It has been observed that CHBr2CHBr2 will crystallize as either trans-or gauche molecules, depending upon the method of cooling employed. To date, crystalline CHCl2CHCl2 has been prepared in the gauche-form only. On the basis of these data and previously reported Raman spectra, a partial assignment of the fundamental frequencies has been made.
