Alloöcimene has been polymerized by a variety of catalysts, including triisobutylaluminium/titanium tetrachloride, triisobutylaluminum/vanadium trichloride, boron fluoride etherate, and titanium tetrachloride. These initiators give polymers at different temperatures and of differing molecular weights but all seem to produce the same recurring structural units in the polymers in approximately the same proportions. It seems that only a slight amount if any cyclopolymerization occurs and it is probable that all of the catalysts are acting as cationic‐type initiators.
