The density profile and the local polarization of the dipolar hard sphere fluid in contact with a hard wall, from which emerges an electric field, is investigated. We first consider a linearized version of the wall particle reference hypernetted chain approximation (RHNC), where the reference system is the dipolar fluid in the absence of the field. Then we make a nonlinear approximation with respect to the electric field. Particular attention is paid to the perturbations induced by the field in the bulk, the polarization, and the modification of the mean density (electrostriction).
