We have enhanced the flipping ratio of spin-polarised-neutron near-critical-angle reflectivity measurements by sandwiching thin (few atomic layers) magnetic films (area 2 cm 2 ) between non-magnetic materials, thereby producing interference in the neutron wave field within the sandwich structure. A strongly spin dependent reflectivity is observed for a 12 Å polycrystalline Fe film at 300 K but no spin dependence is observed for ultrathin f.c.c. Fe films at 300 K.
