A method for the separation of benzo(f)quinoline (BfQ) and phenan-thridine (PH) in shale oil employing a combination of column and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is described. Room temperature phosphorescence (RTP), excitation and emission spectra, fluorescence emission spectra, and chromatographic data were used for identification of the compounds.
