Summary. The advantage of using a compressed air operated shock tube instead of blasting high explosive charges for certain types of physiological blast injury research is briefly discussed. A description is given of a shock tube and of the special arrangements necessary for exposing mice to shock waves in that tube. Some theoretical considerations concerning the shock tube and the data necessary for the calculation of the physical properties of the shock wave obtained are given.
