Momentum and flux conservation laws are combined for a cylindrically symmetric magnetically confined, pulsed electron beam (or plasma) to obtain a generalized “pressure balance” equation. This equation is useful for interpretation of magnetic probe signals in intense electron beam experiments, in which large self-electric and magnetic fields are present.
