SUMMARYHyphal characters of Phymatotrichum omnivorum and Sistotrema brinkmannii were compared with the aid of an electron microscope. Hyphal septa and strands of P. omnivorum were of the simple type. Hyphae of Sistotrema brinkmannii possess the dolipore septum. Septal characteristics of the two fungi suggest that they are not two stages of the same fungus as previously reported. The ultrastructure of hyphae of P. omnivorum shows Golgi-Iike membranous complexes. Nuclei, nucleoli, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, and the cell wall of P. omnivorum are described.
