This paper is a survey of the properties of a class of striated subnormal discharges, and indicates a number of areas in which knowledge of them is incomplete. Attention in particularly called to Hölscher's theory of their diffuseness, radius and stability. The properties of the striated discharges are compared with those of some low-current unstriated discharges in molecular gases, including the low-current phase of Trichol pulses.
