The dielectric constants and losses of selected n-alkyl bromides have been measured at 4.3- and 2.2-mm wavelength at various temperatures between 1° and 55°. In addition, n-octyl chloride, i-amyl bromide, and i-butyl bromide have been measured at 4.3 mm wavelength, and i-amyl bromide has been measured at 1.22 cm. The results are examined in the light of existing lower frequency data. Asymmetric plots of dielectric loss against dielectric constant are found. The nature of the distribution function which would produce such asymmetry is investigated. The losses at 2.2-mm wavelength are unexpectedly large and, consequently, lead to slightly smaller values of the optical dielectric constant than those previously obtained for these substances.
