All articles of this category Aromatic, heterocyclic, and tertiary aliphatic nitriles are prepared from the corresponding aldehydes by the ammonium chloride/copper powder/oxygen system in pyridine. This new one-flask procedure affords very high to quantitative yields of pure nitriles.
