This study of immigration to California has two main purposes. goes back to 1960 before the current era of large-scale immigration began and looks systematically at how immigration has interacted with other demographic and economic trends over the subsequent decades to affect the state. It also examines how immigrants from different countries of origin are faring in their pursuit of the American dream. Finally it identifies the challenges that California faces in integrating its newcomers and their children and how federal and state policies might maximize the benefits and minimize the costs of immigration in the future.
