The behaviour of structure parameters, relating turbulence properties to other turbulence properties, has been determined from atmospheric surface layer data obtained over both land and ocean. The ratio of momentum flux to turbulence energy is found to decrease significantly as the instability increases. Structure parameters relating heat and moisture fluxes to variances of temperature and humidity fluctuations, respectively, also exhibit a strong stability dependence, under unstable conditions. Monin‐Obukhov similarity for these parameters seems to be satisfied by only part of the data examined. Neutral values of these parameters are smaller than corresponding values obtained in the laboratory boundary layer. Possible reasons for this difference are discussed.
