This article argues for a liturgical understanding of the Spirit’s action in the New Testament, observing that in various texts, the Spirit can be shown to move in conjunction with or in response to liturgical or ordered activity. This is accomplished through analysis of oft-quoted texts advocating spontaneity, Jn 3.5–8 and Acts 8, as well as reading other texts liturgically, most notably Acts 2. The article then closes by encouraging Pentecostal and charismatic Christians in their pneumatological beliefs and worship practices.
