Intensities of polarized Raman spectra of single crystal sodium nitrite and correlation with intensities of the aqueous ion

The relative magnitudes of the Raman scattering tensor elements have been measured as a function of temperature for each of the three internal modes of nitrite in sodium nitrite. General valence force fields were calculated and the resulting eigenvectors served as a basis for Raman intensity calculations in the oriented gas approximation. Electro-optic parameters were then calculated from crystal data and the static polarizability value.
