Qualitative user research identifies key operational bottlenecks in crowdsourced heritage initiatives, highlighting opportunities for targeted AI collaboration.
This study aims to explore ways to collaborate with AI to address challenges in digital crowdsourced heritage projects. To identify challenges and find out potential ways for collaboration with AI, all stakeholders and their process need to be understood well. Therefore, extensive user research is done including interviews with librarians based in cultural institutions and with individual organisers who take part in organising digital crowdsourced projects, an online questionnaire and focus group research with contributors to crowdsourced heritage projects. An in-depth exploration of the process of digital crowdsourced heritage projects is conducted both by cultural institutions and by individual organisers via online interviews. Current issues such as sustainability, content-related challenges (quality, relevance, verification, metadata), and contributors’ motivation. Online questionnaire and focus group research with contributors to digital crowdsourced heritage projects help me understand their behaviours and motivations for participating in such projects, the challenges they face while contributing, and the activities they would like AI support for. This poster aims to present the outcomes and analysis of all the interviews, the onlinequestionnaire, and the focus group study, identifying the problem areas and suggesting and outlining intended collaboration with AI to address these challenges.
