An ordinary net radiometer may be converted to a long‐wave instrument using black polythene as a filter to reject the short‐wave solar radiation. The polythene is formed into a spherical shell enclosing the radiometer, and the shell is spun continuously to neutralize the effect of short‐wave heating. Sample records are discussed.
