The trapping of He in bubbles produced by implantation of Al films and the dependence of the pressure-shifted He 1 1 S 0 -2 1 P 1 transition on the He concentration C He have been studied by electron energy-loss spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and proton-enhanced scattering. Application of an equation of state for super-dense He allows the evaluation of the dependence of the bubble concentration C B on C He . The authors find that bubble nucleation takes place predominantly for C He <or approximately=6 at%. In excess of 6 at% C B decreases rapidly with increasing C He indicating the onset of bubble migration and coalescence.
