Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are a major problem in drug therapy and drug development. It can be anticipated that interindividual epigenetic differences that affect the expression of drug-metabolizing and disposition enzymes as well as of epigenetic effectors, such as pharmaceutical compounds, will have significant roles in determining an individual's susceptibility to ADRs. In this brief review, we provide an epigenetics perspective on ADRs. Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics (2011) 89 6, 902–907. doi:10.1038/clpt.2011.21
