The density of inductively excited low pressure h.f. plasmas has been measured as a function of a small transverse static magnetic field for various levels of the h.f. power applied to the discharge. Evidence is given for the plasma excitation by the zero and first order electron cyclotron wave resonance. Characteristic differences between the results at low and high h.f. powers are discussed with a simple model of the power absorption by the plasma electrons.
