The mutual effects of two independent electrical discharges in SF 6 under a pressure of 5 mbar and flow rate of 110 bar cm 3 s -1 were investigated. It was found that there were considerable mutual influences and it was concluded that, under given experimental conditions, they were mostly caused by the metastable atoms or molecules formed by the decomposition of SF 6 in the electrical discharge.
