Specific magnetisation has been measured for single crystals of binary GdTb alloys having 12, 25, 38, 50, 70 and 95 at.% Gd. The alloys are basal plane ferromagnets with (1100) the easy axis at low temperatures. Values for the saturation magnetisation and Curie temperatures are given. Microwave absorption has been investigated for Gd 25 Tb 75 , Gd 50 Tb 50 and Gd 70 Tb 30 . Hexagonal anisotropy has been observed in the (0001) plane for Gd 50 Tb 50 and Gd 70 Tb 30 . Values for the axial and hexagonal anisotropy constants are estimated.
