In that form of the malady which was first described by Bradbury and Eggleston,1the fall of arterial pressure is accompanied by relatively little or no increase in heart rate. The prevalent opinion is that the fall of pressure in cases of this type is owing to a defect of the reflex vasoconstrictor mechanism which adapts the circulation to changes in posture.2, 3, 4It has also been suggested, however, that the underlying fault consists of an inadequate return...References1.
