An addition of Na2CO3 played the excellent role for the stoichiometric photodecomposition of liquid water over TiO2 and SrTiO3 loaded with various metals such as Pt, RuO2, and NiOX. The addition of Na2CO3 for TiO2 catalysts was more effective than that for SrTiO3 catalysts. It was suggested that the stoichiometric photodecomposition of water was associated with CO32− ion and neither with Na+ nor pH.
