An experimental setup is described for the determination of the rotational viscosity γ1 of nematic liquid crystals which operates at temperatures down to −60 °C. Using this setup we have determined γ1 of several liquid crystal mixtures over a wide temperature range and find significant deviations from Arrhenius behavior at lower temperatures.
