Over the past fifty years there have appeared in the literature a number of reports of experiences with Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis) nest-box projects. This paper is an attempt to organize this data and coordinate it with that of the author to provide an intelligent basis for future similar projects.Such information would seem to be appropriate at this time. The people of the United States are becoming aware of the necessity of guarding our natural resources.Growing awareness is reflected in the increasing number of nest-box projects aimed at improving the status of the bluebird. Some projects include as many as 1500 boxes.A secondary aim has been to encourage additional study. Therefore this paper has been copiously documented with references that cover the major sources on the subject.
